Description
The first time I had one of these was on a rainy, cold day at a golf course in Ireland watching the Solheim Cup. I was immediately hooked. I’ve always loved a hot toddy on cool nights or when I don’t feel well but the ones we had in Ireland upped the game with an assortment of spices. Give this a try while sitting around a fire this fall.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ ounces of Irish whiskey (I’m partial to Jameson and Teeling)”
- 1 tbsp of honey
- Juice of 1/4 to 1/2 of lemon (depending on how tart you like yours)
- 3 cardamon pods (slightly smashed to release the flavor)
- 1 star anise
- 6 cloves
- 1 or 2 cinnamon sticks (optiona)
- 1 orange slice (rind on)
- 1 cup of boiling water
Instructions
- In a glass or mug of your choice (I like to use a brandy sniffer to make it feel more festive) add the whiskey, honey, lemon juice, cardamon pods, and star anise, and cinnamon stick if using.
- Pour the hot water into the glass and let the flavors steep for 30 seconds.
- Place the six cloves into the rind of the orange slice.
- Give the orange slice a slight squeeze and add to the drink.
- Sláinte!
