Irish Hot Toddy

  • Prep Time: 5 min
  • Cook Time: 5 min
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 1 1x

Description

The first time I had one of these was on a rainy, cold day at a golf course in Ireland watching the Solheim Cup. I was immediately hooked. I’ve always loved a hot toddy on cool nights or when I don’t feel well but the ones we had in Ireland upped the game with an assortment of spices. Give this a try while sitting around a fire this fall.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ ounces of Irish whiskey (I’m partial to Jameson and Teeling)”
  • 1 tbsp of honey
  • Juice of 1/4 to 1/2 of lemon (depending on how tart you like yours)
  • 3 cardamon pods (slightly smashed to release the flavor)
  • 1 star anise
  • 6 cloves
  • 1 or 2 cinnamon sticks (optiona)
  • 1 orange slice (rind on)
  • 1 cup of boiling water

Instructions

  1. In a glass or mug of your choice (I like to use a brandy sniffer to make it feel more festive) add the whiskey, honey, lemon juice, cardamon pods, and star anise, and cinnamon stick if using.
  2. Pour the hot water into the glass and let the flavors steep for 30 seconds.
  3. Place the six cloves into the rind of the orange slice.
  4. Give the orange slice a slight squeeze and add to the drink.
  5. Sláinte!
