How to inspire creativity

Ideas for keeping your creative juices flowing while staying at home

With the disruption of COVID-19, to say we are living in unprecedented times seems like an understatement. While we gratefully rely on our healthcare heroes and essential workers to brave the burden the virus has caused, it’s become our responsibility to stay home in order to prevent the spread and flatten the curve.

Our team at DoubleShot Creative is doing everything we can to make a difference, whether it’s donating to organizations dedicated to helping those most impacted by COVID-19 or simply washing our hands. While we are fortunate to be able to work from home during this crisis, we understand that staying at home can be taxing towards one’s creativity.

Here are our tried-and-true tips for staying creative while flattening the curve from home.

DIY Projects

In our effort to spark creativity, we’ve found that doing DIY, or “Do it Yourself,” projects is a great way to get inspired and create something new.

Here’s a fun and useful DIY project to try, courtesy of our digital marketing specialist, Allee.

DIY Mask:
Gather a scarf (or bandana), two rubber bands, and a paper towel (or coffee filter). Place the paper towel in the center of the scarf. Fold the top half of the scarf to the middle, and then do the same with the bottom half. Wrap the rubber bands on either end of the folded scarf (loosely!). Fold the ends in towards the middle, and bring it to your face, securing the rubber bands around your ears.

This DIY project is perfect for keeping your creative juices flowing while staying safe during the pandemic. The inspiration doesn’t stop there. From making homemade hand sanitizers to avocado pit dyeing your clothes, the possibilities are endless.

Inspire your inner chef

Whether it’s experimenting with new recipes or perfecting old ones, if it brings you joy, use this time to get more creative in the kitchen. At DSC, we love sharing our favorite recipes and creations with each other.

Coloring Therapy

The world is experiencing a traumatic and overwhelming event. Even though we are all doing our best to maintain our physical health, now more than ever, we must also prioritize our mental health during this time. There are many resources that are helpful for improving mental health, but a popular relief for many has been coloring therapy.Coloring isn’t just for kids anymore — coloring for adults has been proven to reduce stress and anxiety as well as improve motor skills, vision, sleep, and focus. If you are feeling stressed or want a peaceful boost of creativity, we have coloring pages available to print (see below). If you don’t have a printer, or want a more sustainable option, check out this online coloring book website. Happy coloring!
